Our History

Originally constructed by Simon Property Group, East Towne Mall opened to the Knoxville public in 1984. East Towne was designed as what we now refer to as a traditional, big box, shopping mall. East Towne showed great success and was a staple retail location in Knoxville for many years.

Eventually, East Towne Mall was rebranded and the name was changed to Knoxville Center Mall. As traditional retail saw many changes all across the country, so did Knoxville Center Mall. Glimpshire then purchased the mall from Simon Properties. The facility was ultimately sold again and was purchased by Knoxville Partners, LLC.

The new ownership had a new vision for what the mall could be, and the ability to manage and run the operation locally. This positioning gave Knoxville Partners the ability to give the mall the time and flexibility it needs. Since purchasing the mall in August of 2016, Knoxville Partners has started to reposition the mall into a mixed-use facility that will include retail, entertainment, food, office space, medical space, event venues and more.

Now, customers can once again refer to the mall as East Towne and look forward to the facility returning to a thriving area of Knoxville.
